Description
Akij Riva Induction Cooker 2000W
Fast, Flame-Free Cooking for the Bangladeshi Kitchen
The Akij Riva is a 2000W single-burner induction cooker built for everyday cooking without a gas connection. It is compact enough to sit on a countertop or be packed away after use, and powerful enough to handle the daily rice, curry and fry that a Bangladeshi kitchen actually runs on.
How Induction Cooking Works
An induction cooktop does not produce heat of its own. A coil beneath the glass panel generates a magnetic field, and that field creates heat directly inside the base of your pot or pan. The cooking surface itself stays comparatively cool, and heat appears where you actually want it – in the cookware, not in the air around it.
This is why induction feels noticeably faster than a gas burner. On gas, a large share of the flame’s energy escapes around the sides of the pot and warms your kitchen instead of your food. Induction transfers the large majority of its energy straight into the pan, so water reaches a boil sooner and the kitchen stays cooler – which matters a great deal through a Dhaka summer.
2000 Watts of Usable Power
2000W is the standard full-size rating for a domestic induction cooker and is enough for the full range of everyday cooking: bringing a pot of water to a rolling boil, getting a karai hot enough for a proper bhuna, or holding a low steady heat for milk, tea and slow-cooked dishes. Adjustable temperature settings let you move between those extremes rather than being stuck with the on-or-off behaviour of a cheap hotplate.
A Practical Answer to an Unreliable Gas Line
Gas pressure in many parts of Dhaka and Chattogram drops to the point where cooking becomes slow or impossible for hours at a time. An induction cooker runs on electricity, so it keeps working through those periods. Plenty of households now keep one permanently on the counter as a second cooktop, and use it as the primary one whenever the gas is weak.
It also suits homes without a gas connection at all – rented flats, student accommodation, mess kitchens, hostel rooms and small offices where a full gas setup is not practical.
Safer Than an Open Flame
There is no flame and no burning gas, so there is nothing to blow out and no fuel leaking if a knob is left turned. Because the heat is generated inside the cookware itself, an induction cooktop cannot heat up when there is no suitable pan on it – set a plastic bowl or your hand on the panel and nothing happens. The surface does get warm afterwards from contact with the hot pan, so normal care around residual heat still applies.
The flat glass panel also wipes down in a single pass. Spills sit on a smooth surface rather than running into burner grates and gas ports, which is the part of cleaning a gas stove that everyone puts off.
Important: Check Your Cookware
Induction only works with cookware that has a magnetic base. Before ordering, hold a fridge magnet to the bottom of the pots you plan to use – if it sticks firmly, that pot will work.
- Works: cast iron, enamelled iron, and most stainless steel with a magnetic base
- Does not work: aluminium, pure copper, brass, glass and ceramic cookware
- Traditional items: many aluminium deg and karai sold locally will NOT work. Induction-compatible versions are widely available and clearly marked.
Flat-bottomed pans perform best, since the magnetic field needs good contact with the panel.
Who This Suits
- Small flats and kitchens where a full gas range will not fit
- Students, bachelors and mess kitchens
- Households wanting a dependable backup for low gas pressure
- Anyone who wants faster boiling and a cooler kitchen
- Offices, shops and small food setups needing an extra cooking point
